Volunteers and their families help “Feed My Starving Children” feed 52 children for an entire year
CHICAGO – August 28, 2012–On June 29, a group of consultants and their family members from The Vaya Group volunteered to pack meals for Feed My Starving Children, a Christian non-profit organization that packs meals specially formulated for malnourished children and ships them to nearly 70 countries around the world. As part of the organization’s volunteer program in Naperville, Ill., The Vaya Group hand-packed enough life-saving meals to feed 52 children in Haiti for an entire year.
“At The Vaya Group, our mission is not only to cultivate excellence within our clients’ organizations, but also within our community,” said Dr. Paul Eccher, Ph.D., author and co-founder and principal of The Vaya Group. “We believe it’s important to dedicate time and resources to those in need and encourage our staff and partners to give back through organizations like Feed My Starving Children.”
The concept behind Feed My Starving Children (FMSC), founded in 1987, is simple: children and adults hand-pack meals made up of key nutrients a starving child needs to survive and thrive, which are then shipped to children in nearly 70 countries. Volunteers package 100 percent of the food, which was formulated by Minnesota food scientists to specifically address the needs of children suffering from malnourishment. In 2011, more than 565,000 volunteers joined FMSC to package over 133 million meals for children around the world.
“It’s very rewarding to help children in need, particularly in Haiti where basic needs, such as food and water, are top priorities,” said Nicole Morris, Senior Assessment and Development Consultant, The Vaya Group. “In addition, many of the volunteers brought their children along, making it a great opportunity to instill upon them the importance of giving back.”
In addition to donating volunteer support, The Vaya Group, a boutique talent management consultancy based in Aurora, Ill.—donated funds to further aid the children FMSC supports.
